Deputy Minister of Justice and Prison Monitoring Group Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Cooperation

Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Deputy Minister of Justice Gevorg Kocharyan received members of the Public Observers Group exercising public oversight in the penitentiary institutions and bodies of the Ministry of Justice. The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of the activities of the Public Observers Group and expressed his gratitude for the active cooperation. The parties outlined key areas for future cooperation and discussed a number of issues related to improving the conditions of detention of persons deprived of liberty and the effective implementation of mechanisms for the protection of their rights. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the ongoing reforms in the penitentiary system, including measures aimed at modernizing infrastructure, strengthening staff capacities, and enhancing the social and psychological work carried out with persons deprived of liberty. The parties emphasized the importance of ensuring continuous and constructive dialogue, intensifying the exchange of information, and implementing joint initiatives aimed at increasing the transparency of the penitentiary system.
